Richard Durrant - Film and Television Music Production
Richard has been writing and recording television and film music since 1991. His music can now be heard all over the world. |
Telemagination, CTVC, BBC Schools TV (Focus, Numbertime, Watch, MusicMakers), Childsplay Prods, The Pier, Mentorn Films, First Film Foundation, Addictive TV, ZEF Prods, TransAtlantic, Roger Bolton Prods, Oceanbelt Ltd, Cinecontact Ltd, Image Makers, Ravenhead Films, Martin Bird Prods. For broadcast on BBC1, BBC2, BBC4, ITV, Ch4, Ch5 and Discovery.
As a composer, performer and record producer Richard has shown a particular interest in early muisc and contemporary music as well as European folk. He is a very fluent arranger and producer with an ability to conjure up most styles, periods or even countries and continents. He runs indie, acoustic label LongMan Records with his wife Louise and their studio is packed full of acoustic instruments, both ordinary and out of the ordinary. Unusually Richard can play all of them. He has been known to turn around a complex acoustic production in less time than most people would prepare a somewhat nastier sounding midi based demo. And, either in stripped down simplicity or lavish complexity, his productions always sound "expensive".
As a player Richard has been featured soloist on various tv ad campaigns including that British Airways tune, the launch of that Citroen car, that famous Whiter Shade of Pale Dulux ad to name but a few, playing guitars as well as mandolins, balalaika, ukulele, oud etc.... He even played all the bazoukis on Nana Maskouri's Greatest Hits album. Confusing for him, what with Eric Morecambe having died some years previously.
In the studio Richard has been known to use a tasteful blend of midi equipment, but most of his equipment is made out wood!

Children's Television - Richard Durrant is a big kid. The most important things in his life are guitars, banjos and messing about singing songs. His four children Rooney, Daisy, Django & Felix are his sternest critics - often locking him in his soundproof studio for days on end with no food...
Over the years Richard has written and sung lots of songs for BBC Education. Three separate series of the classic BBC TV series Numbertime, and two other BBC mainstays Watch and Music Makers, have made him a familiar voice to a generation of young children. Instrumental credits include Focus (BBC TV Ed) and PictureBox (Ch4 Ed). Richard has also appeared as a presenter for MusicMakers (BBC TV Ed). |
