| The Airport Club closes after 12 years |

After much soul searching I have decided to make December this year the last ever Airport Club. The club has existed for over 12 years, starting at Shoreham Airport way back in 1997, closing briefly when work started on the new Ropetackle Arts Centre and then beginning its final run in its new home in 2007. Since 1997 hundreds of musicians, comedians, poets and other artists have performed and I’m eternally grateful to each and every one.
I am closing the club because I feel it has run its natural course and there are now other exciting and equally creative fish to fry. Visual artist Malcolm Buchanan-Dick and I will certainly continue to work together and my close involvement with the Ropetackle Arts Centre will not be affected. The last three Airport Clubs will be remarkable. Here is a taster:
October 9th (this Friday, doors 7pm, show at 8pm, tickets £9 in advance £11 on the door). Featuring the greatest recorder player in the world Piers Adams, world renowned harpsichordist Howard Beach, signed singer songwriter Mike Rosenberg on the eve of his Australian tour, Latin Jazz from Nick de Oliveira & Raul D’Oliveira, duo Barber & Taylor and the talented young Liam & Dylan (Herbie Flowers’ hot tip as the next big thing from Brighton).
November 13th A very special “Club Class” edition with finger food and a slightly more refined atmosphere...Posh dress please! (Doors 7pm, show at 8pm, tickets £12 in advance £15 on the door) Half of Shoreham seem to be getting their best evening wear out for this gig!
Acts include a bigger slice of RD performing excerpts from “The Guitar Whisperer” show, singer Paul Austin Kelly (Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden and La Scala) and percussionist & composer Simon Limbrick (has composed for London Contemporary Dance, the Nash Ensemble, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Endymion Ensemble, played with Ensemble Bash etc etc). We will also be joined by Jack Cyer’s Brighton based community choir – the first choir to perform at an Airport Club. This will be an evening that really should not be missed.
December 11th (Doors 7pm, show at 8pm, tickets £9 in advance £11 on the door). The last ever club will be a seasonal affair with candlelit renaissance guitar music from yours truly and a selection of Christmas songs by myself and others sung by a variety of amazing voices including Mark Allen, Jack Cryer and Lindsay Field. Demolition Sky will perform a special set to celebrate the launch of their debut album on LongMan Records – writer/performers Mark Colyer and Alistair Mackie have been playing at the Airport Club for many years so it is very apt that they should launch their beautiful CD at the very last club. Expect a full on Christmas wig out to close the club with a bang.
This ends with many, many thanks to those who have supported the club over the years. Pictured club regular Mark Allen with RD at the Airport Club. Click here for film of RD performing at the club.

| The New Season |

The new season of gigs starts at the Airport Club in Shoreham on Friday 11th with the premiere of my new piece “Beautiful Shipwreck” for mandolin and computer. I’ll also be playing it the following morning at the Colourscape Festival in Rotherham. There’s a collaboration with Sarah Tennant-Flowers choir “Encoro” at Douai Abbey in October, and a free improv, electronica gig with Simon Limbrick at Norwich University later that same month.
Throughout the season I’ll be playing a whole series of Guitar Whisperer Shows up and down the UK and in December there'll be four, special, Candlelit Christmas Recitals.
All gig dates with details are over on the left of this site. Come and say hello after a show!

The summer gig season ended for me on 17th July with a gathering of singer songwriters signed to LongMan Records. I found the ocassion very moving as I realised what a significant body of work these artists have produced over recent years. The songs of Jack Cryer, Simon Stewart, Terry Emm, The Hofners, Mark Allen and Demolition Sky mean a lot to me personally and I feel very lucky to be working with such a great collection of musicians.
Since my first gig of the year in Partridge Green back in March I've travelled to 38 venues spread throughout the UK and have made loads of new friends. People have consistantly asked me about my beautiful Gary Hearn guitars and my signature model has just got better and better. Its hard to choose favourite moments from such an enjoyable tour but I've listed some below which I will be day dreaming about during the summer holidays. Thanks for coming to my gigs!
I particularly enjoyed the Ukuleles in Devon, the blazing sunshine on the Isle of Wight, Nick's fabulous lights at the Corn Exchange Newbury, the kids in Pickering North Yorkshire, the beautiful and superbly run new arts centres in Bishops Stortford & Didcot, Gary Holder's music club (pictured) and the gig with particle physicist Philip Harris performed with the help of Paul Kelly, Adrian Marriot and Bimbi Urquhart (also pictured).
